Casseroles make easy everyday or special occasion dishes. Try a Goulash with tomatoes, paprika, cubes of potato and soured cream, or Bourguignon with red wine (or cheaper cider) garlic, mushrooms, bay leaf, parsley and cro0tons to garnish. Slices braised with onions in stout makes a cheaper alternative to prime cut steaks.

Casseroles make a nutritious meal, high in protein with vegetables which boost the vitamin C, p carotene and fibre content. Serve with potatoes, rice, pasta or bread (use the wholemeal type for added fibre) to complete.
